Evergreen shrub that grows from 2 to 5 feet tall. Younger bark is silvery or gray eventually turning stringy and black with age. Leaves are fan-shaped with typically three lobes. Red to yellow flowers bloom from summer to fall. Following the flowers, thousands of seeds mature in the fall. Mountain Big Sagebrush grows well in sandy or loamy soils that is well drained. Thrives in full sun. Provides great forage and cover for wildlife.
